Iranian Society of Radiology (ISR)
Researcher

(20 Months) January 2012 _ September 2014

This was my Master of Science final project which now is also the first stage of the projects that AFC medical committee and research center is going to develop for determination of football player ages.

The concepts of using MRI data sets to automatically extract information from regular FIFA protocol has been studied for about 20 months in Medical Imaging Informatics Research Center (Iranian Society of Radiology) at Tehran. The basic research starting from segmentation of the radial bone, epiphyseal plate, 3D reconstruction of the growth plate, extraction of quantitative features from the object and correlation of these findings with FIFA grading system has been all implemented as independent projects as well as a master’s degree project at Tehran University. The research has been awarded as the best paper in Iranian Congress of Biomedical Engineering. The papers has been reported in international meetings including CARS (Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery), European Congress of Radiology, Annual Meeting of European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics, Turkish Congress of Radiology, Future of Football Medicine (FC Barcelona), Russian Congress of Radiology, Radiological Congress of Pakistan, At national level it has been presented in multiple medical and engineering congresses including Iranian Congress of Radiology, Iranian Imaging Informatics Conference, Iranian Congress of Biomedical Engineering, Iranian Congress of Forensic Medicine, Iranian Sports Medicine Congress, etc. We have recently started submitting papers to the imaging, sports and engineering high level journal to enhance visibility of the project. The publications will be available by the end of 2017. The results of research has been also reported in private invited lectures in the following institutions: Harvard Medical School (Boston), Johns Hopkins - Technology Innovation Center (Baltimore), University of Southern California: IPILAB – Image Processing and Informatics Lab (Los Angeles), Mainz University Hospital (Mainz – Germany), Medical University of Vienna – AKH (Vienna, Austria) We have done all these research projects using our own national archive based on about 400 young athletes.
